Aggressive new therapies are now being pursued at mesothelioma clinics and cancer centers across the United States. Nearly all of the nation's top healthcare facilities, from the University of Californial UCLA Medical Center to New York University Medical Center, have comprehensive and cooperative mesothelioma programs. Among the most exciting are the therapies being pursued by Dr. David Sugarbaker through the International Mesothelioma Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital in conjunction with Harvard University and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA.
Rather than simply applying traditional mesothelioma chemotherapy drugs or radiation treatment to early mesothelioma cancer disease, Dr. Sugarbaker has been working through the development of a multi-modality therapy which utilizes mesothelioma surgery for resection of the tumor in addition to managed chemotherapy and radiation.
